Nashville Based Operatic Artist
Javier Castro is a Honduran-American tenor recognized for his vibrant stage presence, lyrical warmth, and versatility across opera, concert, and crossover repertoire. Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance at Belmont University, he studies under Dr. Mark Whatley and is emerging as a dynamic young artist with both international and national performance experience.
In Summer 2026, Javier completed his second season with Prague Summer Nights, where he performed the roles of Monostatos and Second Servant in Die Zauberflöte directed by Garnett Bruce, covered the role of Tamino, and appeared in the chorus for both Die Zauberflöte and Don Giovanni. He also portrayed Nemorino in scenes from L'elisir d'amore and was featured as a cabaret soloist at Royal Theatre & Club Chic, presenting a rendition of Stephen Sondheim's "The Ladies Who Lunch." His previous Prague Summer Nights engagements included performances in Prague and Vienna as Don Curzio and cover Basilio in Le nozze di Figaro under the direction of Joshua Major and Joachim Schamberger, as well as cabaret performances at the renowned Porgy & Bess Jazz Club.
Javier has also studied and performed in Lucca, Italy with Opera Lucca, appearing as Ferrando in scenes from Così fan tutte while working with distinguished faculty including Peter Volpe, Raphael Fusco, and Alessandra Volpi. Additional operatic credits include Roméo in Roméo et Juliette, Pinocchio in Pinocchio, Viscount Cascada in The Merry Widow, and King Ouf I in Chabrier's L'Étoile with Belmont Opera Theatre. His portrayal of King Ouf I was praised for its "impeccable comedic timing," highlighting his versatility as both a singing actor and comedian.
During the 2025–2026 academic year, Javier completed the performance requirements for his Vocal Performance degree, culminating in his senior recital, Look for Joy, a program celebrating resilience, hope, and the transformative power of music.
Beyond the operatic stage, Javier has performed nationally as a touring vocalist on Andrea Bocelli's Romanza Tour, singing alongside Bocelli as well as acclaimed artists Pia Toscano, Larisa Martínez, Lauren Daigle, and CeCe Winans. These arena performances strengthened his musicianship, stylistic versatility, and professionalism in large-scale performance settings.
An active performer throughout the Nashville arts community, Javier participated in Nashville Opera's Opera on Wheels outreach program during Summer 2026, bringing opera to communities across Middle Tennessee. He will also join the Nashville Opera chorus for Puccini's Tosca during the company's upcoming 2026–2027 season.
A frequent collaborator with the Nashville Bel Canto Foundation, Javier has appeared in both its inaugural Gala Concert and annual Notte di Natale holiday concert, working alongside Metropolitan Opera coach Stefano Baldasseroni. His concert achievements also include recognition as a two-time national finalist in the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) competitions, placing among the top finalists in both Classical Voice and Musical Theatre divisions.
An ICCA World Champion with Belmont University's internationally recognized all-male a cappella ensemble The Pitchmen, Javier currently serves as President, leading artistic programming, musical development, and ensemble initiatives.
In addition to his performance career, Javier is deeply committed to leadership and arts administration. He served as a School of Music administrative assistant supporting undergraduate and graduate program coordination and was recognized as part of Belmont University's "Staff of the Year" in 2024 for his service as a Resident Assistant.
With a voice rooted in lyric warmth, expressive storytelling, and an engaging theatrical presence, Javier continues to pursue opportunities in opera, concert, and collaborative performance while sharing the transformative power of music with audiences around the world.
