Nashville Based Operatic Artist
Javier Castro is a Honduran-American tenor recognized for his vibrant stage presence, lyrical warmth, and versatility across opera, concert, and crossover repertoire. Currently pursuing his Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance at Belmont University, he studies under Dr. Mark Whatley and is emerging as a dynamic young artist with both international and national performance experience.
In Summer 2026, Javier returns to Prague to perform Monostatos and understudy Tamino in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte with Prague Summer Nights. His previous European engagements include appearances in Prague and Vienna, where he performed Don Curzio and covered Basilio in Le nozze di Figaro under the direction of Joshua Major and Joachim Schamberger. During this residency, he collaborated with acclaimed pianist Justina Lee and performed in cabaret at the historic Porgy and Bess Jazz Club.
Javier has also studied and performed in Lucca, Italy with Opera Lucca, appearing as Ferrando in scenes from Così fan tutte and working with esteemed faculty including Peter Volpe, Raphael Fusco, and Alessandra Volpi. Additional operatic credits include Roméo in Roméo et Juliette, Pinocchio in Pinocchio, and Viscount Cascada in The Merry Widow with Belmont Opera Theatre.
Beyond the operatic stage, Javier has performed nationally as a touring vocalist with Andrea Bocelli on the Romanza Tour, singing backup not only for Bocelli but also for acclaimed artists including Pia Toscano, Larisa Martínez, Lauren Daigle, and CeCe Winans. These large-scale arena performances have strengthened his musicianship, stylistic flexibility, and professionalism in high-profile performance environments.
A frequent collaborator with the Nashville Bel Canto Foundation, Javier appeared in both its inaugural Gala Concert and the annual Notte di Natale holiday concert, working alongside Metropolitan Opera coach Stefano Baldasseroni. His concert work also includes national competition recognition as a two-time national finalist with the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS), placing in the top three in both Classical Voice and Musical Theatre categories.
An ICCA World Champion with Belmont University’s internationally recognized all-male a cappella group The Pitchmen, Javier currently serves as President, leading artistic programming and ensemble development.
In addition to his performance career, Javier is deeply committed to leadership and arts administration. He serves as a School of Music administrative assistant supporting undergraduate and graduate program coordination and was recognized as part of Belmont University’s “Staff of the Year” in 2024 for his service as a Resident Assistant.
With a voice rooted in lyric clarity and a deep commitment to storytelling, Javier continues to pursue opportunities in opera, concert, and ensemble performance, sharing the transformative power of music with audiences worldwide.
